Haines Junction, Yukon

Surrounded by a beautiful and rugged landscape, Haines Junction is truly a wilderness town and offers exceptional outdoor experiences for visitors and residents alike.

Just before you reach Haines Junction, you see them: the breathtaking Saint Elias Mountains. Dazzling, imposing and glistening white, they’re a fitting greeting as you approach Kluane National Park and Reserve.

Sitting beneath the Saint Elias, Haines Junction is accustomed to waiting a moment or two before getting noticed after the impressive mountain range does. But once you pause in this wilderness town,  there’s so much to discover.

Haines Junction sits within the Traditional Territory of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations whose roots here go back thousands of years. Visit the Da K? Cultural Centre to learn more of their rich culture, join a guided tour or campfire talk, admire artwork, browse exhibits and hear interesting stories.

The Da Ku Cultural Centre also houses the Kluane National Park Visitor Centre and its fascinating digital exhibits, cultural artefacts and interactive family-friendly games. Learn about the first climbers to ascend Mount Logan—Canada’s highest peak. We don’t suggest you follow in their footsteps, but we do suggest you live vicariously through them by watching a video of their ascent—it’s much safer, warmer, and pairs well with popcorn.

Take an unforgettable flightseeing or rafting excursion. Hike a historic trail through pristine wilderness or drive the highways alongside the park boundary. However you experience your time in Kluane National Park and Reserve, Haines Junction—dubbed “The Junction” by the locals—is your starting point.
