Newfoundland & Labrador

Perched on the easternmost edge of Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador is a place like no other — wild, welcoming, and wonderfully unique. Here, rugged coastlines meet centuries of stories, and locals greet you like an old friend. If you travel to connect with people as much as places, this is where you’ll feel right at home.

Expect to find dramatic seascapes, ancient rock formations, and thick boreal forests that seem untouched by time. It’s as close as you can get to seeing what the world looked like before humans ever set foot on it.

The province has two parts: Newfoundland, the island, and Labrador, which borders Quebec on mainland Canada. You can fly between the two or take the ferry across the scenic Strait of Belle Isle — an adventure in itself.

Newfoundland and Labrador’s distinct culture is woven from English, Irish, French, and Indigenous traditions. It’s a land rich with legends, explorers, and storytellers — and home to some of Canada’s most celebrated artists and musicians. Live music is part of everyday life here, from the pubs and stages of George Street in St. John’s to small-town festivals that light up the coast.

Nature lovers will find endless ways to explore. The province boasts three National Parks, one National Park Reserve, 18 wilderness and ecological reserves, and lush botanical gardens. With more than 29,000 kilometres of coastline, you’re never far from breathtaking encounters with whales, seabirds, and icebergs.

Keep an eye out for the world’s largest migrating population of humpback whales (best seen from May to September) and the magnificent icebergs that drift through Iceberg Alley — ancient, 10,000-year-old giants. From unforgettable landscapes to legendary hospitality, Newfoundland and Labrador is more than a destination — it’s an experience that stays with you long after you’ve left its shores.
