St John's Experiences

Visit the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve. Home to over 2.5 million seabirds and one of the Atlantic's most productive feeding areas for several whale species, this Reserve is beyond compare in its ability to offer visitors a world class wildlife experience on a consistent basis. Highlights include over 500,000 Atlantic Puffins and upwards of 50 Humpback Whales during mid summer. Icebergs are frequently seen in late spring and early summer.

Cliffs, coves, and beaches! Leave the city behind and head north, following Marine Drive along the rugged coastline of Newfoundland. Visit the Ocean Sciences Center to see the touch tank, seal observatory, and the finger rocks of Logy Bay. Explore Middle Cove’s pebble beach and dramatic cliffs while looking for lucky rocks. Visit Tapper's Cove, an active fishing wharf in the town of Torbay. In Flatrock, enjoy the expansive view of Newfoundlands' unique geology while visiting a Grotto cut into the cliffside. Learn about the folklore, humour, and deep-rooted culture of the Newfoundland people along the way. In season, watch for icebergs, whales, seabirds, and capelin.

There’s no better way to learn about the history and culture of a community than to eat its food. On this Newfoundland Food Tour, you will eat your way through downtown St. John’s. Newfoundland and Labrador has one of the most unique food cultures in Canada. Long known for seafood, wild game, and delicious traditional meals, the province has a long list of mouth-watering ingredients and recipes. From a CFA finding success selling beloved Newfoundland pastry to a haunted pub that inspired a TV set to a former fruit stand literally built on the ashes of the Great Fire, we’ll explore the people, stories, and food that make the city unique. Come hungry! If you arrive gut-foundered, by the time we finish our walk, you’ll be stogged.

This walking tour does include some hills and stairs (this is St. John’s, after all!), but you take your time. Whether it’s your first day in town or you’ve been here before, you’ll walk away with stories to tell and a deeper love for this incredible city.
