Purcell Mountains, near Golden, BC (heli-access only)
This is a lodge for those drawn to remote, uncrowded mountains but who also want their comfort looked after. Expert guiding brings spectacular alpine terrain within reach of guests at any level, and the lodge itself, with its gourmet food, hot tubs and relaxed pace, is very much part of the appeal.

Deep in the Purcell Mountains, over 1,300 metres elevation. No road in – guests travel by coach from Calgary or Banff through Yoho National Park, then helicopter for the final leg (around five hours door to door). Golden is the nearest gateway town.
We recommend Bobbie Burns Lodge to travellers who want a private, premium mountain escape rather than a backcountry expedition. Expert guides open up remote alpine landscapes to guests of all levels, while gourmet dining, hot tubs and genuine lodge hospitality take care of the rest.
Day 1: Arrival
The journey begins early, with coach pickup from Calgary, Banff or other points along the way at 5:00am, tracing a route through Yoho National Park as the Rockies catch the first light. By 9:15am you reach the helipad, where a short heli-transfer carries you over ridgelines and forest into the Purcells and delivers you to the lodge itself.
Late morning is for settling in: a look around the lodge, its common rooms and trails, before lunch at 11:30am. At 1:00pm, after a helicopter safety briefing, the first hike of the trip sets off into the surrounding peaks, an introduction to the terrain that will fill the coming days. By late afternoon, around 4 to 5pm, everyone is back at the lodge for apres adventure refreshments, a soak in the hot tub, or a massage. The day closes at 7pm with a gourmet dinner and a hand-crafted cocktail, the first of several toasts to a mountain well climbed.
Days 2 and 3: Exploration
Each of these days opens at 7:30am with a dynamic warm up, followed by a hearty breakfast at 8am and the packing of a lunch for the day ahead. From here, the choice is yours: hiking or Via Ferrata, both leading into high alpine terrain accessible only by helicopter.
The first hiking group lifts off at 9am, scattering across the mountains in small groups with a guide. Lunch is taken in the field at noon, wherever the day's route happens to lead, before the return flight and a descent back to the lodge by late afternoon. The 4 to 5pm window is for recovery: the hot tub, a massage, or simply time to sit with the day's views still fresh in mind. At 7pm, dinner is served family style, guides and lodge staff included, and stories from the day's adventures pass around the table along with the food.
Day 4: Departure
The final morning begins gently, with a hearty lodge breakfast at 8am before the last heli-transfer lifts guests out of the mountains. A private coach then carries everyone from the helipad at 10:45am, tracing the return route through Lake Louise, Banff and Canmore toward Calgary.
Banff is reached by an estimated 1:15pm, with Calgary International Airport (YYC) following by around 2:45pm. Flights home are best booked for after 5:45pm MT, giving the mountains one last unhurried morning before the journey back to the ordinary world.
