In the north-eastern city of Tupelo, the 15-acre Elvis Presley Birthplace site is a Mississippi historic landmark. The 1839 Old Capitol building in Jackson, the state capital, is now a museum with multimedia exhibits, while the city's Eudora Welty House memorializes the Pulitzer Prize–winning author. William Faulkner’s 1840s Greek Revival home, Rowan Oak, is in the city of Oxford.
