Whistler Highlights

By Sean

This was my first trip to Whistler, and it's the perfect add on to a Vancouver stay if you fancy swapping the city for the mountains. I had an amazing time, from a helicopter ride onto a glacier to kayaking along the River of Dreams. It was an unforgettable experience and I'd highly recommend it.

Helicopter glacier experience and bears

After flying from London Heathrow into Vancouver, our Canadian adventure got off to a spectacular start. As soon as we landed, we headed north along the famous Sea to Sky Highway towards Whistler. The drive alone was an incredible introduction to British Columbia, with huge mountains, forests and amazing views all the way along the route. When we arrived in Whistler, I checked into the Delta Hotels by Marriott Whistler Village and absolutely loved it. I was staying in a suite, which was lovely and spacious, and the balcony had an amazing view over the mountains. It was the perfect place to settle in and start the trip.

Whistler itself was also right up my street. There was so much going on, with loads of restaurants, bars, shops and activities, but it still had that lovely mountain village feel. There is so much you can do there, whether you're looking for something adventurous or just want to relax and enjoy the scenery.

The following morning, we were up early for one of the biggest highlights of the trip, a helicopter ride over the mountains. We flew around the incredible landscape and got to see some of the glaciers up close before landing on top of a mountain. Honestly, it was one of the best things I have ever done.

Once the helicopter had left us on the mountain, it was so peaceful. We were surrounded by mountains with nobody else around, and it was one of those moments where you just stop and take everything in. Having that little bit of time in such an incredible setting was special and something I won't forget.

After flying back to Whistler, we got changed and headed out again, this time to kayak the River of Golden Dreams. This was such a fun experience and the scenery was unreal. We were surrounded by beautiful mountains and nature, and we also got to see loads of wildlife along the way, including bears!

That evening I headed into Whistler for some Mexican food at a lovely restaurant. The food was great and the atmosphere was exactly what I was looking for after such a busy day. It was a really nice way to finish off our time in Whistler.

Sea to Sky Highway

The next morning, we headed back down the Sea to Sky Highway towards Vancouver, stopping at the Sea to Sky Gondola along the way. This was another stop that I would recommend. The gondola takes you high above Squamish and the views from the top are incredible, with huge mountain ranges and spectacular views across Howe Sound. There are also some great viewpoints and walking trails at the top, so you can easily spend a few hours taking it all in.

Once we reached Vancouver, I checked into the Sutton Place Hotel. The location was fantastic and central, making it a great base for exploring the city. The rooms were big and comfortable, but the thing that really stood out to me was the bed. It was genuinely one of the best hotel beds I've slept in during any visit to Canada!
